james kelleher is a licensed professional counselor and national certified counselor working with adolescents, adults and couples in the scottsdale/phoenix area. he earned his masters degree in counseling psychology from new york university and his bachelor’s degree in psychology and education from new jersey city university.

james is a member of several professional organizations, including the american mental health counselors association (amhca), national association of cognitive-behavioral therapists (nacbt) and motivational interviewing network of trainers (mint).

over the past several years, james has provided psychotherapy to diverse populations with a variety of needs. he has experience in many areas of counseling using a non-judgmental approach. james’ therapeutic style consists of, but is not limited to, cognitive behavioral therapy(cbt) and motivational enhancement therapy(met).

james has extensive training in motivational enhancement therapy, which uses motivational interviewing (mi) as a skill. james has also trained as a motivational interviewing treatment integrity (miti) coder. james has a number of years of experience training therapists across the country in the techniques used in mi. while his strengths are within cbt and mi, he also practices using an eclectic framework of theories depending on the needs of his clients.
